Conclusion

In conclusion, the Sierra Leonean TRC was successful in finding the root causes of conflict. Additionally, it was successful in promoting accountability in government leaders towards the country and its people. The establishment of the National Human Rights Commission, Anti-corruption Commission as well as the Trust Fund were other strengths of the TRC in Sierra Leone. However, it was slow functioning and unsuccessful in collecting statements from all the victims and perpetrators. The lack of funds and short time contributed the TRC making inadequate recommendations to address key areas of need such as health care, education, agriculture, and pensions or to meaningfully promoting avenues of reconciliation.
